This standard provides the requirements for an unrecorded tape cartridge to be used for information interchangeamong information-processing systems. Such a cartridge comprises two parts:– a case to provide protection of the media from contaminants and human handling, and to facilitateloading and unloading of the cartridge by the drive;– a magnetic tape of 12.65 mm (0.498 in) width held inside the case on a reel. The tape shall beservo-written and transported on the reel for recording at a physical density of 2550 ftpmm (64 770ftpi). Signal conditioning techniques may result in a higher effective recording density.
