The purpose of this standard is to establish standardized procedures for obtaining samples of aggregates to be used in the manufacture of concrete and mortar, in order to be able to carry out: a) Control of the product at the same source of supply. b) Control of operations at the place of use. c) Tests for the acceptance or rejection of materials. These operations require great care on the part of the people responsible for carrying them out since the precision with which the results of any test can reflect the characteristics of the material in its raw state may be limited by the representativeness of the sample. The samples obtained must show the true nature and condition of the materials they represent. Deposit investigation as a source of aggregate supply is not considered in this standard.
