Scope
This standard specifies three methods to calculate the mechanical resistance, based on the curve recorded during the test, when it presents several force peaks. Such is the case, for example, of the curves recorded in the tear resistance test according to UNE 53-516 (1). Method A and in the test to determine the adhesion between fabrics and elastomers according to UNE 53-538. The results are calculated by determining the median or range values of the peak values, from a graph of force versus time recorded during the test. These curves may present few or many force peaks, depending on the test and the material being tested. The choice of calculation method depends on the number of peaks on the curve. The purpose of this standard is to obtain more uniformity in the evaluation and presentation of test results. However, it is only applicable when specified in another standard, for example, in a test method or specification. For other details, such as apparatus, preparation and conditioning of test tubes, operating procedure, etc., what is indicated in the corresponding standards will be taken into account. Note: In certain cases the calculation methods given in this standard may not be appropriate, such as peak values that show a trend of variation over time. In the event that the minimum values are of interest, the same calculation methods can be used as when the results are determined from the path of the peak values.
