The purpose of this standard is the quantitative determination of alcoholic hydroxyls contained in fat matter, expressing it through the hydroxyl index. The weight of potassium hydroxyl, expressed in milligrams, equivalent to the acetylatable hydroxyls contained in 1 g of fat matter, is called the hydroxyl index.
