This standard specifies a spectrophotometric method for the determination of total silicon in steels and cast irons through the formation of the reduced molybdosilicate complex. The method is applicable to silicon contents between 0.05 and 1.0% (m/m), in steels and cast irons, soluble in one or another of the alternative acid mixtures.
