Scope
This standard determines the general and safety requirements for starting devices (primers and starters), for fluorescent tubes and other discharge lamps, to be used with supplies of up to 1,000 V, in alternating current at 50 or 60 Hz, which do not produce starting impulses greater than 5 kV and which are used in combination with lamps and ballasts specified by the following CEI standards: 81,188, 192, 662, 920 and 922. NOTE- The standard for metal halide lamps is in study. This part of the standard is also applicable to starter and starter devices for lamps that are not yet fully standardized. It does not apply to starter and starter devices that are incorporated into discharge lamps or that are manually operated. Preheating transformers for fluorescent lamps are specified in the IEC 920 standard. The requirements for starter devices that produce pulses greater than 5 kV are under study. The tests described in this standard are type tests. Requirements for individual tests during manufacturing are not included. NOTE- Effluvium primers are included in the CE1155 standard.
