This standard is intended to describe a gravimetric method for determining the amount of unmodified polystyrene material that is soluble in methanol. The methanol-soluble matter may consist of styrene or a monomer mixture, with any soluble lubricant or coloring matter that may be present in the polystyrene. The presence of mineral pigments, emulsifiers or lubricants can interfere with the test by making filtration difficult.
