Scope
1.1 This standard establishes a method for determining the modulus of rupture, or bending resistance, that a refractory material presents at room temperature, under conditions of constant increase in stress. 1.2 This method is applicable, fundamentally, to fired shaped refractories. If it is desired to apply it to chemically or tar-bound materials or to non-formed materials, it may be necessary to apply a heat treatment. This heat treatment is outside the scope of this standard and the conditions for its performance must be agreed upon between the interested parties and included in the test report. NOTE- The method described in this standard determines the same property as the UNE 61-039/2 standard but at room temperature instead of at elevated temperature. If it is desired that the determination of this characteristic, both at elevated temperature and at room temperature, be carried out under exactly equivalent conditions, the same equipment and the same size of test tube as specified in the aforementioned UNE 61 standard must be used. 039/2 instead of what is specified in this standard; Carrying out the test under these conditions falls outside the scope of this standard.
