Scope
This standard establishes the terminology to describe the physical properties of the sonic booms produced by the overflight of supersonic aircraft, specifies the minimum operational requirements of the equipment and the method to be used for their measurement. The measurement conditions considered include those in which the direction and time of arrival of the pressure disturbance and even its approximate intensity may not be previously known. This standard establishes the bases for the measurement and description of the pressure waveform of the sonic boom, which allows assessing its effects on people, structures, animals and unstable terrain features. Note: The physical properties described by this standard are properties of specific acoustic phenomena (sonic boom) that occur at a given location; They cannot be considered as properties of a specific aircraft since the measured quantities also depend on the flight conditions, the atmosphere and the terrain.
