Scope
The provisions of this standard apply, first of all, to measuring instruments, in which a mark thereof (for example, a material index or a luminous ray, a vernier line, an edge, a marked point of a sight glass , etc.) is adjusted or adjusted to a point on a scale (division) of the instrument. (It makes no difference whether the mark or the scale moves.) In measuring instruments, to which this characterization is not applicable, these provisions are applied analogously, as far as possible. Some measurements (calms, calipers, weights, standard resistance) represent only one unit and do not have moving parts in their measurement elements, so there is, consequently, no mark or scale. To these, therefore, the concept of sensitivity (chapter A) cannot be applied, but the concept of error can (chapter 5). The instruments listed in the first paragraph of this chapter also include graphs (... - recorders) and counters. These provisions also apply to measuring devices, composed of several instruments and supplementary accessories, which form a whole. For example: Measurement bridges, with zero indicator; balance of several components, in the aerodynamic channel; coordinate measuring instrument; self-classifying instrument.
