Scope
The purpose of this standard is to describe methods of exposing test tubes to artificial light sources, in order to determine the changes caused by said exposure. This standard includes the following types of light sources: a) Xenon arc lamp b) Closed carbon arc lamp c) Open flame carbon arc lamp. Of the different light sources, the advantages of the xenon arc lie in the fact that—if filtration and maintenance are correct—they can provide a spectrum as similar as possible to that of natural light. Carbon arcs emit a light quite different from natural light but for some specific applications they are useful and in some countries their use is quite widespread, although it is decreasing. Likewise, this standard specifies means to determine the radiation dose. To determine the changes in properties after exposure, reference is made to the UNE 53-384 standard.
