1.1 This standard specifies classes, shapes, dimensions and ratings, composition and manufacture, requirements, packing, marking, sampling and criteria for conformity and tests for strain-type porcelain insulators.
1.2 Insulators in this standard shall be porcelain insulators for use with overhead a.c. transmission line and which may be adjusted for use with overhead d.c. transmission line.
1.3 This standard covers only the strain-type porcelain insulators for use in the transmission and distribution of electric energy.
