The purpose of this standard is to establis the requirements that must be met by ballasts with open circuit voltages of 2000 volts, or less, (See the NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, NORVEN Standard 63-2-68 for classification of voltages) intended to operate at frequency 50 or 60 Hz. Ballasts for hot cathode fluorescent tubes are included, either for preheat start, for quick start (continuously heated cathodes), or for instant start; and also ballasts for cold cathode fluorescent tubes, used mainly for lighting purposes and which are included in these voltage values. The tube and ballast assemblies treated in this Standard are intended for use in premis s with ambient temperatures between 10° and 40° C. For ambient temperatures outside these values, certain special operating characteris ics would be necessary. In addition, this Standard will be used in conjunction with NORVEN Standard N°551P 71 "DIMENSIONAL AND ELECTRICAL CHARACTERis ICS OF FLUORESCENT Dis HARGE TUBES".
