Scope
hese requirements apply to Remote Supervising Stations providing fire-alarm, and supervisory services as described in the National Fire Alarm Code, NFPA 72. These requirements apply to remote stations, that are intended to be located in buildings constructed in accordance with building codes. The requirements for software and hardware, and the installation and operation of an automation system in a remote station are covered by the requirements for automation systems, UL 1981, or by the standards for Control Units for Fire-Protective Signaling Systems, UL 864. A reference made to "supervising station" refers to a remote station. These requirements do not cover the communication channel between the protected property and the station. This includes: a) The company that provides the communication channel and b) The equipment that is used to provide the communication channel. Exception No. 1: If the communication channel is owned and operated by the station, these requirements do apply.
