Scope
This paper addresses the effect of two common manufacturing errors on the performance of spur and helical gears; spacing error and gear runout. In spacing error analysis@ load sharing for two worstcase scenarios are treated@ one where a tooth is out of position and the second where stepped index errors are applied. The analyzed results are then used as inputs to predict gear dynamic loads@ dynamic tooth stresses and dynamic factors for gear rating.
