AASHTO T 383-2023
Scope
This method covers the evaluation of asphalt binder release agents (ARAs) for use on paver surfaces, rollers, rollers, gratings, and hand tools. These ARs are applied to paver surfaces to prevent transfer of asphalt binder or asphalt mix from transport vehicles to the paver surface. The ARs used should be able to function without the need for grinding (stripping) of the asphalt mix. The values adopted in this standard should be used as specifications and references. Imperial units are for reference only. This standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. It does not purport to eliminate all safety issues associated with the use of this method. It is the user's responsibility to ensure its safe use and compliance with the requirements of R18. The quality of the results depends on the competence of personnel, calibration, and maintenance of equipment. Organizations that meet the requirements of R18 are generally considered competent to perform testing/sampling/inspection or other related activities. Strict adherence to the procedures specified in R18 or accepted guidelines will ensure reliable results. The results depend on many factors; following the recommendations provided by R18 or other accepted guidelines means evaluating and controlling some of these factors.
