This practice specifies standards and procedures for the pulse-echo ultrasonic examination of heat-treated carbon steel, low-alloy steel, and martensitic stainless steel castings. It is applicable whenever castings are required to undergo ultrasonic testing in accordance with this standard. The practice includes two distinct procedures: Procedure A uses flat-bottomed hole test blocks for calibration, while Procedure B employs back wall reflections from solid calibration blocks. This method complements radiography and Guide E94/E94M for detecting discontinuities. Supplementary requirements may be optionally included at the purchaser's discretion. The standard is expressed in both SI and inch-pound units, with each system used independently to ensure compliance. Safety practices and regulatory compliance are the responsibility of the user.
