Key technical elements

Metadata extension mechanism

The standard allows 4 types of extensions to meet special needs:

1. Add new metadata entities (such as adding salinity calibration information for ocean observations)
2. Extend the value range (such as increasing the time frequency to "15 seconds")
3. Tighten existing constraints (change optional elements to required)
4. Add metadata elements (such as adding flight altitude for drone observations)

Example: When the social meteorological observation needs to add the Observation equipment maintenance record entity, the original core entity structure such as DataIdentification should remain unchanged.

Implementation recommendations

Meteorological science data

• Must include all 47 metadata elements
as specified in Appendix A
• Time attributes should use UTC or BJT time system (see Table D.3)
• The vertical datum should preferably use the 1985 National Height Datum (code 102)

Social observation data

• At least include core elements
such as identification information, observation instruments, and responsible parties
• It is recommended to add the instrument operation status (instStatus) field
• Access restrictions need to clearly mark the agreement sharing terms
