Scope
"This guideline will describe three (3) methods for the processing of reader output from ANS MH10.8.3 (ISO/IEC 154342) formatted two-dimensional (2D) symbols and other Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) high capacity data carriers (e.g.@ Radio Frequency Identification [RFID] tags@ button memory). In this guideline@ high capacity AIDC media refers to AIDC media such as 2D symbols@ RFID tags and button memory. A reader@ for the purposes of this guideline@ can be a rastering bar code scanner@ an imager@ an RFID tag reader or any other device designed for capturing data from high capacity AIDC media. The three methods are: 4) XML output reader configuration (ANS MH10.8.15) 5) Character substitution 6) Connection modes Other methods for the configuring and processing of reader output will be briefly discussed. Section 4 provides an introduction to the correct encoding high capacity AIDC media per ANS MH10.8.3 requirements. It provides an example of the encoding and explains the control characters used in the encoding. Section 5 discusses the reader interfaces to computers or workstations. Section 6 discusses the three recommended methods for processing reader output (see above). Purpose The purpose of this document is to provide recommendations for processing the output from ANS MH10.8.3 formatted two-dimensional (2D) symbols and other Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) high capacity data carriers because of the need for further explanation beyond what is found in current standards and guidelines on this topic. 2 ISO/IEC 15434 is the ISO/IEC JTC1 Subcommittee 31 (""SC31"") standard that is essentially the equivalent to ANS MH10.8.3 for the purposes discussed in this guideline."
