Scope: This document describes the specimen preparation, test equipment and fixtures, test procedures, result calculation and test report for the shear strength test method of disc brake pad assemblies and drum brake shoe assemblies. This document is applicable to the determination of the shear strength of automotive disc brake pad assemblies and drum brake shoe assemblies that are integrally molded, bonded or use two types of fixing systems. This document is not applicable to the determination of the shear strength of riveted automotive brake pad (shoe) assemblies.
