Wetlands are natural or artificial areas with significant ecological functions, including areas with perennial or seasonal water accumulation. According to GB/T 43624-2023, wetlands can be divided into natural wetlands and artificial wetlands according to their causes. The former include mangrove forests, while the latter include reservoir surfaces and pond surfaces.
Classification Dimensions | Natural Wetlands | Artificial Wetlands | Mixed Types |
---|---|---|---|
Cause of Genesis | Mangrove Land, Forest Swamp | Reservoir Water Surface, Pond Water Surface | Coastal Beach |
Ecological Function | Biodiversity Protection, Water Conservation | Water Purification, Flood Control | Integrated Services |
Management Level | Nationally Important Wetlands, Provincially Important Wetlands | General Wetlands | Internationally Important Wetlands (Ramsar Site) |
In Dongzhaigang, Hainan Province, 100 hectares of mangrove wetlands were successfully restored through reclaiming the beach and ecological water replenishment technologies. The project not only improved the regional ecological environment, but also enhanced the carbon sink capacity, with an annual carbon fixation of more than 500 tons.
