This National Standard of Canada is equivalent to the international standard IEC 60601-1-2:2007. 1 Scope and purpose 1.1 * Scope This International Standard applies to the BASIC SAFETY and ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE of MEDICAL ELECTRICAL DEVICES and SYSTEMS, hereinafter referred to as ME EQUIPMENT and SYSTEMS. This collateral standard applies to the ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY of EM DEVICES and SYSTEMS. 1.2 Purpose The purpose of this collateral standard is to specify the general requirements as well as the tests for the ELECTROMAGNETIC COMPATIBILITY of ME EQUIPMENT and SYSTEMS. They complement the requirements of the general standard and serve as a basis for the specific standards.
