Scope

This document describes the test method and classification system for the test results of atmospheric and low pressure (tank top pressure less than or equal to 50 kPa) metal storage tank floors based on acoustic emission (AE). This document applies to acoustic emission testing (AT) of the severity of corrosion of atmospheric metal storage tank floors. The technique is limited to tank floors made of construction steel and relies on an active corrosion process. It is only applicable when floor corrosion is the primary damage mechanism. Good results will be obtained if the corrosion conditions are not changed.
