This standard defines an ontology for integrating industrial data throughout its life cycle. The ontology is represented by means of the online ontology language (OWL). The scope of this standard includes the following:
——fundamental subclasses of individual objects that exist in the actual or possible world, including physical objects, activities and events;
——relationships between physical objects, activities and events, including the creation and destruction of physical objects;
——part-whole relationships between physical objects, including those implementing a 4-dimensional (4D) approach to changes in time, relationships between time-related parts;
——moments in time and periods of time;
——points and areas in space;
——designation of a point in time using text strings defined in the format contained in ISO 8601. The scope does not include:
——determination of physical properties and measurement scales;
——organization of knowledge and specification of document metadata;
——approval and status;
——geometric and topological models, including shape models
