Scope
Logistics as defined in AAP-6@ NATO Glossary of Terms and Definitions@ is: The science of planning and carrying out the movement and maintenance of forces. In its most comprehensive sense@ logistics covers those aspects of military operations that deal with: a. Design and development@ acquisition@ storage@ transport@ distribution@ maintenance@ evacuation and disposition of materiel@ b. Transport of personnel@ c. Acquisition or construction@ maintenance@ operation and disposition of facilities@ d. Acquisition or furnishing of services@ e. Medical and health service support1 f. Personnel Management. Logistics encompass the broad range of sustainment activities across a full spectrum of conflict. Since this document primarily focuses on the operational level land logistic@ activities such as design@ development@ construction@ acquisition and disposition of equipment and facilities are only addressed indirectly in this document@ namely only if and insofar as these activities play a role during operations. For the purpose of this document the definition of logistics is used in its widest sense to include the personnel@ administrative and field services which support the morale and welfare of personnel across a full spectrum of conflict.
