The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have published Amendment 1 to ISO/IEC 23003-1:2007, titled "Information technology - MPEG audio technologies - Part 1: MPEG Surround conformance testing," on August 18, 2008. This amendment is designed to ensure the interoperability and quality of systems implementing the MPEG Surround technology as defined in ISO/IEC 23003-1.
MPEG Surround, a component of advanced audio coding standards, enhances the efficiency of multi-channel audio delivery over digital media networks by reducing data transmission requirements. This is achieved through spatial downmix and synthesis techniques that maintain high-fidelity sound reproduction even at lower bitrates.
The conformance testing specified in this amendment ensures that implementations of MPEG Surround adhere strictly to the defined standards, thereby maintaining a consistent level of performance across different systems and devices. It includes detailed test procedures and conditions for assessing the accuracy and reliability of encoding and decoding processes associated with the technology.
