This method is suitable for the determination of non-volatile matter (also known as NVM, non-volatile residue or NVR) in chlorinated solvents at concentration of 1 to 1000 ppm (wt/wt).
This method is also suitable for many non-chlorinated solvents such as methanol and -' acetone but may require additional precautions because of the flammability of the non, chlorinated solvents.
This method, as written, is not suitable for the determination of NVM in certain solvents (examples: propylenedichloride, 1,1,1,2-tetrachloroethane, unstabilized _1,1,2trichloroethane and unstabilized 1,1,1-trichloroethane.) which are very reactive with aluminum.
