This specification covers the requirements for depositing silver on metal parts with a nickel strike between the base metal and the silver deposit. This process is commonly used to prevent galling or seizure of part surfaces, such as fasteners, made of low alloy steels, corrosion and heat resistant steels, and nickel alloys for service up to 1400°F (760°C), but use is not limited to such applications. Although the materials, methods, applications, and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification does not deal with the hazards that may be involved in such use. It is the user's responsibility to become familiar with the safe and proper use of any hazardous material and to take the necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of all persons involved.
