The National Market Supervision Administration of China has recently published a new standard entitled "Personal Flotation Equipment - Part 2: Safety Requirements for Performance Level 275 Life Vests," designated with the standard number GB/T 32234.2-2023. This standard is scheduled to come into effect on April 1, 2024.
The introduction of this standard aims to enhance the safety and reliability of life vests designed for use in various aquatic environments. It provides detailed specifications and requirements concerning materials, design, construction, testing methods, as well as performance levels specific to Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) classified under Level 275.
Key aspects covered include buoyancy requirements, durability tests against environmental elements like UV radiation and water exposure, impact resistance, ease of donning the device in emergency situations, and clear labeling instructions for users. The standard also includes stringent quality control measures to ensure that products meet safety criteria before they are marketed or used.
The implementation of GB/T 32234.2-2023 is expected to contribute significantly towards improving water safety standards within China by providing a robust regulatory framework for the production, testing, and certification of life vests adhering to Performance Level 275 specifications.
