Scope
1. Scope 1.1 This standard covers laboratory equipment intended to be connected to power circuits with a nominal voltage equal to or less than 750 V, for indoor use in non-hazardous locations, in accordance with Canadian Electrical Code, Part I. 1.2 The standard targets devices protected against electric shock due to a failure of the main insulation, by earthing or double insulation. 1.3 The standard targets electrical laboratory devices which can be used by personnel who are familiar with their operation but unaware of the electrical dangers they may present. In some cases, these devices may be accessible to the public. Note. Although individuals who perform certain laboratory tasks are considered qualified, that is, having received the necessary training to perform certain repetitive tasks requiring the use of electrical equipment, it is assumed in this standard that their training does not justify the use of devices which, due to exposed live parts, present a risk of shock. 1.4 The standard does not cover electromedical equipment defined in ACNOR standard C22.2 no. 125, Electromedical equipment. 1.5 The standard does not apply to industrial process control equipment, control devices or instrumentation. 1.6 The standard does not include requirements for X-ray or similar devices intended to produce alpha, beta or gamma radiation. Note. The requirements relevant to ionizing radiation devices are stipulated in standard ACNOR C22.2 no. 114, Devices emitting ionizing radiation.
