Scope
The scope of pumps covered by this program is limited to those identified in the energy conservation standards established by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and listed in Section 40.5.1.7 of this document (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidance Standards"). Any domestic or foreign company that manufactures, sells, packages, or distributes pumps within the scope of the Guidance Standards is eligible to participate in this program to generate and display Energy Efficiency Rating (ER) labels in accordance with the requirements described in Sections 40.5.2, 40.5.4, and 40.5.5 of this document. In addition, entities (including participants and non-participants) can generate a one-time ER certificate for a single pump installation, applicable when a motor or control is added to an ER pump listed in the HI database, as described in Section 40.5.7. The HI Energy Rating is suitable as a comparison tool under the following conditions: •Comparing a selected pump to its benchmark performance • For selected pumps of the same equipment category and the same load type, the duty point has been correctly selected • For selected pumps of the same equipment category but a different load type (constant or variable load [speed]), the duty point has been correctly selected The HI Energy Rating is not suitable for: •Initial pump selection • Comparing the energy efficiency performance of different equipment categories • Comparing the energy efficiency performance of pumps selected for different duty points • Comparing the energy efficiency performance of fixed-speed and variable-speed pumps that will operate in a constant-flow system
