Scope
This standard is intended to cover specific materials or products that come in contact with: drinking water, drinking water treatment chemicals, or both. The focus of the standard is the evaluation of contaminants or impurities that indirectly affect drinking water. Products and materials covered include, but are not limited to, process media (e.g., carbon, sand), protective materials (e.g., coatings, linings, gaskets), connecting and sealing materials (e.g., solvent cements, welding materials, gaskets), piping and related products (e.g., pipes, tanks, fittings), mechanical equipment used in treatment/transmission/distribution systems (e.g., valves, chlorinators, separation membranes, point-of-entry (POE) drinking water treatment systems), and mechanical plumbing equipment (e.g., faucets, end-point control valves). Point-of-use (POU) drinking water treatment equipment is not within the scope of this standard.
