Introduction

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) published Amendment 30 to ISO/IEC 14496-5:2001 on November 29, 2011. This amendment updates Part 5 of the series known as MPEG-4 Visual, focusing specifically on the Extended Core Decoder and Encoder reference software (ExtendedCore2D). The aim of Amendment 30 is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of video coding for multimedia applications by introducing advancements in the ExtendedCore2D profile, which supports a wide range of bitrates and resolutions.
