API ESCS-1990 Engine Service Classification System:1989 Licensees Including Brand Products Authorized to Display the Engine Service Classification System Symbol
FOREWORD The API Engine Service Classification System describes and classifies@ in general terms@ the service conditions under which engines are operated. It provides a basis for selecting and recommending crankcase oil. A marketer of motor oil may apply to the American Petroleum Institute for a license to use the API Symbol to inform the consumer of the quality and performance of an oil. The applicant must be the marketing organization responsible for the integrity of the brand name and the product's representation in the marketplace.
