This standard specifies the dimensions, surface finish and mechanical properties for normal wall and thin wall pipe with theoretical dimensions between 3.4 mm and 0.3 mm (10G-30G) and for very thin wall pipe with dimensions theoretical ranges between 2.1 mm and 0.6 mm (14G-23G). This standard applies to rigid stainless steel needle tubes that may be used in the manufacture of hypodermic needles and other medical articles intended primarily for human use. This standard does not apply to flexible stainless steel tubes because their mechanical properties differ from those specified for rigid tube. However, it is recommended that manufacturers and buyers of flexible pipe adopt the dimensional specifications indicated in this standard. NOTE - Stiffness properties are not specified for very thin-walled tubes of theoretical dimensions 0.8 mm, 0.9 mm, 1.2 mm, 1.4 mm, 1.8 mm, and 2.1 mm.
