This standard defines and specifies quantitative conditions and general requirements for specimens, testing machines and test procedures for determining the viscoelastic parameters of elastomers, by application of cyclic forces or deformations, shape, frequency. and controlled amplitude, including impact forces or deformations. The term "dynamic properties" is used here to characterize the deformation behavior of elastomers, under conditions in which both stress and strain vary periodically with time. This standard is oriented toward the use of test tubes prepared in the laboratory, but the same principles are generally applicable to testing finished articles or their models. To clarify the definitions and interpretation of the data, a summary of the basic concepts and theory of dynamic properties is included, with selected bibliographical references.
