Scope:

• This document specifies the procedure for determining the voids of dry compacted filler by means of a Rigden Apparatus. It allows for measuring the percent volume of free asphalt that a filler can carry.
• The test is applicable to both natural and manufactured fillers.
• Values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
• This standard does not address all safety concerns associated with its use. Users must establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine regulatory limitations prior to use.
• The quality of results depends on the competence of personnel, and the capability, calibration, and maintenance of equipment. Compliance with R 18 alone does not completely assure reliable results; following R 18 guidelines helps evaluate and control some factors.
