Scope
This part of BS 7870 specifies the construction, dimensions and mechanical and electrical property requirements for XLPE insulated, concentric copper wire screened corrugated or spiral cables rated at 0.6/1 (1.2) kV. It applies to cables which, when evaluated by specified tests, produce reduced levels of smoke and corrosive gases when exposed to fire than cables complying with BS 7870-3.40. Requirements are specified for the following types of cables:  •3 core, 3 phase, XLPE insulated, copper concentric neutral/earth conductor on a synthetic bedding and thermoplastic outer sheath;  •4 core, 3 phase and separate neutral, XLPE insulated, copper concentric earth conductor on a synthetic bedding and thermoplastic outer sheath. This part applies to cables designed for a maximum continuous conductor working temperature of 80°C and a maximum short-circuit conductor temperature of 250°C.
