This standard specifies the test method for Salmonella typhimurium reverse mutation testing of oral materials. This test is used to determine the production of histidine-independent (his+) gene mutations in histidine-dependent (his-) strains induced by oral materials that can cause gene replacement and/or frameshift mutations in Salmonella. It is one of the tests for detecting the mutagenicity of oral materials.
