Scope
Scope 1.1 This Standard specifies minimum safety and performance requirements for vacuum devices (see Figure 1). Equipment may be driven by centrally powered piped vacuum systems, fluids, electricity, or manually powered for a variety of applications (see Figure 1). Excluded from the Standard are (a) central power supply (by vacuum/compressed air generation), piping systems of vehicles and buildings, and wall connectors; (b) catheters, drains, curettes, and suction tips; (c) syringes; (d) anaesthetic gas scavenging systems; (e) laboratory suction (see CSA Stadnard CAN/CSA-Z305.1); (f) autotransfusion systems; (g) passive urinary drainage; (h) closed systems for wound drainage; (i) gravity gastric drainage; (j) orally operated mucous extractors; (k) peristaltic pumps (where collection device is upstream of the pump); and (l) breast pumps. 1.2 Equipment specified by this Standard may be used for various procedures including the following applications: (a) liposuction; (b) naso-gastric drainage; (c) oral-nasal suction; (d) thoracic drainage; and (e) uterine aspiration. 1.3 The values given in SI (metric) units are the standard.
