Scope
The purpose of this Document is to define the scope and application of digital system techniques for implementing data acquisition, calculations, and results presentation for use with ASME Performance Test Codes. This Document incorporates instrumentation practices covered by other Instruments and Apparatus Supplements (PTC 19 Series). The Document is based on the use of digital systems covering a wide range of capability from simple data gathering equipment to multipurpose on line or off line data processing digital systems. The justification for using digital techniques may be derived from a variety of reasons either chosen by or forced on the user by the unique circumstances surrounding the user. Among the benefits to be derived from applying these techniques are: (a) savings in testing costs by reduction in man power, length of test, amount of testing equipment, and computational time; (b) improvement in accuracy and reliability of results; (c) standardized methods and procedures; (d) simplified documentation for test; (e) providing uniform implementation of ASME Performance Test Code measurements; (f) providing current pretest reasonability check of data and instrumentation; (g) determining steady state conditions for test initiation and potential and potential impact on test results; visibility of data during the test (h) improved visibility of data during the test period.
